Multi-Language Support

  • Updated

Visitors to your TurboVote site and existing users can access TurboVote on the web in more than 20 languages (in addition to English and Spanish). Whether you use a TurboVote destination site or embed TurboVote, you can share links to translated pages directly with your audience, helping you connect voters across different communities with trusted voting guidance.

User Experience

Multi-language support is available for most TurboVote experiences, including:

Note: TurboVote SMS and email notifications will continue to be sent in English or Spanish.

If a user creates a TurboVote account while viewing the page in a language other than English or Spanish, the account profile’s default language will be set to English. Expanded multi-language support for all notifications is coming soon.

There are two ways for TurboVote users to access guidance in their preferred language:

1. Users can tap the 🌐 language switcher button located in the toolbar of each page, which opens a menu of all supported languages. The toolbar may be located at the top and/or bottom of the page, depending on the TurboVote experience.

2. You can share a TurboVote URL with the lang= query parameter set to a specific language (e.g., https://example.turbovote.org/?lang=hi). Users who tap your link will see the translated page.

See example links for all supported languages in the next section.

Supported Languages

The following languages are currently supported: English, Spanish, Amharic, Armenian, Bengali, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Creole, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Tagalog, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

TurboVote’s Spanish translations are mostly translated manually, though some pages are translated automatically using DeepL. All other languages are powered by Google Translate. For languages other than Spanish, TurboVote first loads the page in English and then replaces each “string” with content in the selected language.

The table below includes the lang value and example links for each supported language. Whether you use a destination site or embed TurboVote, you can create and share URLs that append the lang= query parameter to send your audience directly to a translated page. If you embed TurboVote on your site, reference guidance for creating Embed Page Transport URLs.
